Serengeti National Park

Overview

Serengeti National Park is one of the most iconic wildlife destinations in the world, renowned for its vast plains and incredible biodiversity. Covering 14,750 square kilometers, the Serengeti is famous for its annual Great Migration, where over two million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles move in search of fresh grazing. The park is easily accessible from Arusha via a 6-hour drive or a short flight from Arusha or Zanzibar to one of the several airstrips within the park.

Wildlife

The Serengeti offers unparalleled wildlife viewing opportunities. In addition to the Great Migration, visitors can expect to see the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino), as well as cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, and numerous antelope species. The park’s diverse habitats, including riverine forests, kopjes, and acacia woodlands, support a wide variety of bird species, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise. The dramatic landscapes and the sheer abundance of wildlife make the Serengeti a must-visit for any safari enthusiast.

When to visit

The best time to visit Serengeti National Park largely depends on what you want to see. The dry season (June to October) is ideal for spotting large concentrations of wildlife around water sources and witnessing the river crossings during the Great Migration. The wet season (November to May) brings lush landscapes and the birthing season for wildebeest, making it an excellent time for bird watching and seeing young animals.
